Vintage Beaucraft Jewelry and Charms

Beaucraft, Inc., known to many as "Beau", manufactured sterling silver jewelry from 1947 through 2004 from its Providence, Rhode Island factory. The company was one of the leading producers of fine sterling jewelry for 57 years. They made popular mid priced pieces including charms, rings, necklaces, earrings, and brooches. Charms were their best selling category and there are still thousands of examples available on the market as collector's items.

The company was founded in 1947 by Luigi Russo and Ray Sacciccio, and the business grew rapidly as they developed a reputation for design originality and craftsmanship. Beaucraft supplied jewelry to large department stores and independent jewelers alike, and at one time employed over 125 people and 35 outside sales representatives. Some of their most popular charm designs include mustard seeds, gumball machines, carousel, and nautical themes. Their figural pieces were a principal line of Beaucraft jewelry.

Although Beaucraft cultivated a reputation for high quality sterling silver jewelry, the company also manufactured sterling souvenir spoons and novelties, and jewelry crafted of goldplated metal, gold over silver, and 14K gold. During the 1960s their designers began contrasting brushed and polished silver to create a new and original look for classic fashion jewelry.

In 2004, after 57 years at the helm of Beaucraft, Luigi Russo decided to retire and much of the remaining inventory was sold at auction to Amsco Ltd. for resale. The company itself was sold to Rembrant Charms, who continues to supply independent retailers with Beaucraft merchandise, including branded pads and displays.

Beau jewelry is typically hallmarked "B Ster", "Beau Sterling", or "Beaucraft", making it easy to identify. Most of the collectible charms were crafted in the 1950s and 1960s and because of their high quality can be found in excellent condition today. Charm collectors are increasingly snapping up old Beau sterling silver charms for the whimsical and unique designs, ensuring the Beaucraft brand will be in demand for years to come.
